Getting Disputes Resolved

While reading this article at first I had mixed emotions. I thought the worker could have been blamed because he should have secured his boots in a safe place where they could not get stolen. On the other side I could see his argument being right that the company should have protected their property. The article focused on three parts; interest, rights and powers. Interests are needs, desires, concerns, and fears. The miner was willing to work and didn't want to lose his daily pay, but couldn't because he didn't have boots. Rights are represented by laws or contracts and behavior, equality, and seniority. The miner had no contractual right to new boots and felt the company was responsible. Power is the superintendent whom the miner brought up the situation to. From my personal opinion I think the company should have offered a pair of boots so the miner would not have missed out on daily wages because he was wiling to work. But I don't think the company should be responsible for purchasing new boots for him. An example of this would be if I left my keys in my car and someone stole it. I could not blame my apartment complex because I left my personal property at risk and have no one to blame but myself.
